 Prayer and Worship

Prayer

Biblical meaning of prayer:
Tefillah — Hebrew

Prayer involves self-judgment and self-evaluation, supplication, conversation, meditation, and dialogue with God. It is talking to God as a child talks to a father. It is an alignment of the heart with Him.

Key components of prayer: adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.

Worship:
Hishtachavah — Hebrew

Worship is a deeply emotional and intentional act of giving honor to God rather than simply performing a duty. It means to bow down, fall facedown, or prostrate oneself in humble submission.

Worship is the total response of a person’s heart, mind, and life to the supreme worth and holiness of God. Worship is a lifestyle that flows from an authentic inner spirit aligned with God’s truth.

> “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
> — John 4:24

Prayer has a major role in my life. I tend to pray in the morning. I have learned to bring God into my new day, thanking Him for waking me up. I have also developed the habit of praying throughout the day.

There is so much power in prayer and so much for us to learn. God has already answered so many prayers—even the unspoken prayers of the heart. His delight is in us. He rejoices over us with singing. (Zephaniah 3:17)

I really enjoy gathering with others in prayer. We come into agreement and intercede for those whom God places on our hearts.

In my journey, I am learning to rely completely on God. I am blessed to be part of Intercessors for America and the Billy Graham Prayer Team.

I am also learning not to compare myself to others, especially the people in the Bible. Instead, I learn from their examples and their consistency. Their lives teach me how to encourage others, how to lead, how to warn others of imminent danger, and also how to celebrate and strengthen one another.

I continually ask God for wisdom, revelation, knowledge, and discernment so that I may remain watchful and prayerful.

I will never be exactly like any of them, nor am I called to be. But I will always strive to grow into the person God has called me to be.

Let us be true worshipers who worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. Let us come to Him out of love, reverence, and awe. Let us tremble at His voice.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Let us clap, shout, dance, and bring Him a new song.

That is the prayer of my heart at this time.
